Elizabeth de Burgh

Elizabeth de Burgh is also known as Elizabeth de Clare. The connection to the Belchamp Walter area is obviously in her name as she was the wife of a de Clare of Clare, Suffolk. Elizabeth was also a wealthy land owner in Sudbury, Sulfolk.

The de Clare family are well known in the region and the marriage of Elizabeth to John de Burgh 30 September 1308.

Joan of Acre was the daughter of Edward I and is related to the de Clare family due to her married to Gilbert de Clare, 7th Earl of Gloucester. She is buried at Clare Priory.

Elizabeth de Burgh is the daughter of Gilbert de Clare and Joan and Acre, hence the name Elizabeth de Clare.
