Barn Conversion

Oh the irony!

The following is an objection made by the current owner of Mary Hall in response to the planning application for a barn conversion at Hopkin's Farm.

" This application should be rejected. The barn itself is a beautiful and old building that should be preserved as such. The purpose of development is purely for profit and as such is unnecessary. It will destroy the character of a wonderful existing building. Furthermore, as has already happened in this immediate vicinity, there has been considerable badly designed and unnecessary building of both barns and houses which are completely out of character with this part of England. It will be further destruction of the environment for the purpose of profit "

The objection was made, in the authors opinion, at the request of the owner of Hopkin's Farm. The reference to the "unnecessary building of both barns and houses" was a made in relation to another planning application, that was approved, that was close to the parents of the owner of St.Mary's Hall (who doesn't actually live there full-time as it is a second home with a principle residence in London). The parents recently objected to a barn convertion near their current property, the building is not listed so I cannot state it here. That application was for the conversion of an agricultural building into 3 residences. This was a problem for the parents but are now quite happy that the conversion has been changed to a single 5 bedroom dwelling!
