Bittorrent in 2022/2024

March 2022 Microsoft seem to have caught up with me! However, I did find a workaround.

A year ago I purchased a new Windows 10 and found that I could not download and install Bittorrent. No matter what I did Windows Security and Windows Defender blocked both the download and install.

I think that I tried pretty much all the advice that I could find on-line but gave up as I had a computer, running Windows 10, that still ran and would update to the latest version of Bittorent. This ended in March 2022.

An article in October 2021 on technotification.com says that "Windows 10 Now Blocks Torrent And Mining Apps By Default", it has taken until March 2022 for this to really affect me.

While the discussion on "Windows 10 Now Blocks Torrent And Mining Apps By Default" is correct the solution that is described is both ineffective and the solution to use OSS software not really practical if you want to stick with Windows.

Turning off Reputation-based protection, as shown above, and then using a third-party anti-virus is not a solution for me.

My Solution to this problem - Ubuntu Linux

Seeing as Microsoft appear to "have the hots" for blocking users to be able to use torrenting ANY solution that runs on Windows is destined to eventually fail.

A bootable USB drive was created using Rufus as per the tutorial on the Ubuntu website.
