Walks in Belchamp Walter

Belchamp Walter is a great location for the walker.

Below is a map of the circular walk from the Church of St. Mary's through and around the Belchamp Hall estate. The walk takes you across the fields and past the Belchamp Walter Folly.

The walk is just over 1 mile and should take about ½ hour.

Description of the circular walk

This walk takes around 1 hour. If you are staying at one of the rentals at Belchamp Hall you can join this walk at any part of the circuit.

Monks Pond - Long Pond

The walk around Monks Pond can be added to the circular walk of it can be part of a longer walk along Belchamp Brook.

Belchamp Brook

While it is possible to walk from Belchamp Walter into Sudbury, the walk along the brook can be taken in small steps.

The Open Doors website says about the Belchamp Brook walk:

Approximately 9 miles

There are several points at which you can start this walk as it skirts the edge of Sudbury and passes through Little Henny, Bulmer Tye, Bulmer and the edge of Belchamp Walter.

This route explores the common lands on the west side of Sudbury, it partially follows the Stour Valley Path along a former railway from Ballingdon Bridge to Brundon it then goes cross-country following footpaths along Belchamp Brook and up through the water meadows before visiting Church of St Mary the Virgin at Belchamp Walter, St Andrew's church at Bulmer and passing close to Borley Church and All Saints Church at Middleton.

The Railway Walk

This walk takes you along the dis-used railway line from just South of Long Melford into the heart of Sudbury.
