Wikipedia with AI
January 2026 - Wikiwand is was returning "Article not Found" on some look-ups. This seems to be an issue with a browser extension or the fact that Wikiwand have changed their subscription policy.
Wikiwand describes itself as "AI-driven contextual learning with Wikipedia"
Wikiwand was founded in 2013 by Lior Grossman and Ilan Lewin. It officially launched in August 2014

AI-driven contextual learning with Wikipedia
Wikiwand say about themselves:
Welcome to Wikiwand, an AI-driven wiki aggregator created to enhance user experience on Wikipedia by streamlining knowledge consumption. Wikiwand embodies Wikipedia's goal of providing access to the totality of human knowledge, while maintaining a commitment to neutrality, transparency, and community-driven content.
We advocate for human created content. We integrate AI alongside, not as a replacement for, the full-contextual articles from Wikipedia, Wikiquote, and Wiktionary. We combat biased information and champion transparency by employing sophisticated algorithms to identify and flag potential biases, offering users quality score and meta-data on various topics, articles, and definitions.

The research that I have performed on the Botetourt family seems to be supported by questions asked on Wikiwand. However, the responses are mainly based on the 1st Lors Botetourt and the relationship with Edward I and II. When asking about the 2nd Lord Botetourt the results are not so conclusive.
This being said Wikiwand is useful as it does confirm some of the sources such as Douglas Richardson and Michael Prestwich.
Having looked closer at Richardson I am getting the impression that he is a "Modern-day Henry Massue" in that he has written personal histories for a number of American families.
Wikiwand AI Credits
Wikiwand AI Credits are a feature associated with Wikiwand, a modern interface for browsing Wikipedia. These credits are likely used within their platform to access advanced AI-driven functionalities and tools that Wikiwand offers. Such features may include AI-assisted content enhancements, personalized experiences, or other advanced services that improve how users interact with Wikipedia content through Wikiwand’s interface. It’s best to check their official site or recent announcements for the most accurate and updated details on how these credits work and their specific uses.
Subscription model
The Wikiwand subscription model is such that if you just want the basics it is free. If you want a more "in-depth" analysis then you have to subscribe.
Wikiwand Browser Extension
Some of the external links I have placed on my pages are those directly to Wikiwand. Whether it is due to a change in the subscription model or for another reason, these links often return a message that the article cannot be found.
When the extension is turned on the links to Wikipedia are automatically redirected to Wikiwand. This proves to be a problem if the article cannot be found.
You can turn off this browser extension if it had been installed. I can't remember doing this but I must have.
