What you see and experience if you have been hacked
I am surprised that more people are not hacked as there are so many threats and bad-agents trying to fool users into revealing their credentials.
I spent a lot of time in the past studying this and I have met many "Hackers".
Being Hacked
I find that the terms "hack" and "hacked" are not really well understood.
It was reported that Liz Truss's mobile had been hacked by the Russians
The news articles were before Liz had her disasterous stint at being Prime Minister.

The BBC - NSO article
This is some text from that article:
Facebook-owned WhatsApp has filed a lawsuit against Israel's NSO Group, alleging the firm was behind cyber-attacks that infected devices with malicious software.
WhatsApp accuses the company of sending malware to roughly 1,400 mobile phones for the purposes of surveillance.
Users affected included journalists, human rights activists, political dissidents, and diplomats.
NSO Group, which makes software for surveillance, disputed the allegations.
Pegasus (spyware)
The Wikipedia page says:
Pegasus is spyware developed by the Israeli cyber-arms company NSO Group that is designed to be covertly and remotely installed on mobile phones running iOS and Android.[1] While NSO Group markets Pegasus as a product for fighting crime and terrorism, governments around the world have routinely used the spyware to surveil journalists, lawyers, political dissidents, and human rights activists.
Reading between the lines it would seem that this was little more than an attempt at
Social Engineering - IMO.

NSO claims that it provides authorized governments with technology that helps them combat terror and crime.[6][7] The company says that it deals with government clients only.[8] Pegasus spyware is classified as a weapon by Israel and any export of the technology must be approved by the government.
